A Spectacular 2017/2018 Season Comes to an End

The 2017/18 Season began with a triumphant role debut as Eboli at Opéra national de Paris. Joined by an exceptional cast, including Jonas Kaufmann, Sonya Yoncheva, and Ildar Abdrazakov, Elīna made her role debut in a new production by Polish director Kryzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Philippe Jordan. The spectacular Latvian mezzo-soprano “tore the house down as a glamorous Eboli…delivering a showstopping ‘O don fatal’” (BachTrack), and her “smooth, even voice… wrapped adroitly around the sensuous curlicues of the “Veil Song,” soaring at the top” (The New York Times).

Following her performance as Eboli, Elīna returned to the Royal Opera House to make her house debut as Santuzza in Damiano Michieletto’s Olivier Award-winning double-bill of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. Elīna was joined by Bryan Hymel, Elena Zilio, Mark Doss, and Martina Belli in a production conducted by Daniel Oren.

Elīna launched into 2018 with a three-city concert and recital tour throughout Mexico, performing in Mérida, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. Constantine Orbelian conducted performances with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco. Later, in February, Elīna returned to Bayerische Staatsoper to perform her iconic Carmen alongside Bryan Hymel, Alexander Vindogradov, and Golda Schultz. Karel Mark Chichon conducted the Bayerische Staatsorchester.

Spring 2018 was marked by performances throughout Europe and the US, and included concerts at Staatskapelle Dresden with Christian Thielemann, Broad Stage with Karel Mark Chichon, and the Berlin Philharmonic with Sir Simon Rattle, as well as a recital at Musikverein with Malcolm Martineau.

In May, Elīna returned to the stage of Wiener Staasoper for her role debut as Dalila in Samson et Dalila. Conducted by Marco Armiliato, the Latvian mezzo-soprano performed alongside tenor Roberto Alagna, in a production directed by Alexandra Liedtke. Elīna will reprise the role in September, opening the Met’s 2018/2019 Season.

Following Samson et Dalila, Elīna sang in concert in Poland, France, Austria, Lithuania, and Latvia, performing with the Sinonietta Cracovia, Vienna Philharmonic, and Orchestra Philharmonique de Luxembourg. The 2017/18 Season closed with Elīna’s annual Klassik unter Sternen and Klassik in de Alpen, where she was joined by musical guests Anna Pirozzi and Gregory Kunde and a performance at Dzintaru Konzertzale with Olga Pereyatko and Dmytro Popov.
