Elīna Garanča Returns to Carmen at Bayerische Staatsoper
On February 16, 19, and 21, Elīna Garanča returns to perform her iconic Carmen at Bayerische Staatsoper. For the last decade, Elīna has performed as Bizet’s sultry heroine in opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, and Paris Opera. She has been consistently praised by critics for her “alluring tone” (Associated Press) and “stunningly impressive mezzo” (The Evening Standard). In the words of The Times, the Latvian mezzo-soprano “commands a voice that’s rich and vibrant from lowest note to highest, and capable of hurling out a contemptuous challenge with blazing power.”
The production, staged by Lina Wertmüller, also features Bryan Hymel (who recently sang with Elīna in the Royal Opera House’s Cavalleria Rusticana), Alexander Vinogradov and Golda Schultz. Conductor Karel Mark Chichon leads the Bayerische Staatsorchester.
