Elīna Garanča makes her stage role debut as Dalila
On May 12, Elīna Garanča makes her stage role debut as Dalila in Camille Saint-Saën’s Samson et Dalila at Wiener Staatsoper. Conducted by Marco Armiliato, the Latvian mezzo-soprano performs alongside tenor Roberto Alagna, with whom she has shared the stage many times in Carmen.
Samson et Dalila magnificently explores the Biblical conflict of love and politics, of desire and betrayal, in a timeless masterpiece that ranges from heartfelt longing to ecstatic bacchanal. Directed by Alexandra Liedtke, the opera also features Carlos Álvarez (High Priest) and Sorin Coliban (Abimélech). Performances continue May 15, 18, 21, 25, and 28, 2018.
The performance will also be broadcast online through the WIENER STAATSOPER LIVE on May 18.
Watch Elīna perform Dalila’s famous aria, “Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix” from her album, Romantique.
Elīna will return to the role on September 24, starring in the opening performance of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2018/2019 season.
