Elīna Garanča bids farewell to trouser roles with final Octavian at Metropolitan Opera

In the company’s first new production of the work in nearly 50 years, Elīna Garanča will bid farewell to the trouser roles of her repertoire with Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera.

Starring as the eponymous knight of the rose in Robert Carsen’s Hapsburg-era production, the Latvian mezzo-soprano headlines a dream cast that also features Renée Fleming as the Marschallin, Erin Morley and Kathleen Kim alternating as Sophie, Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs, and Matthew Polenzani as the Italian Singer. Sebastian Weigle conducts Strauss’s masterwork.

May 13’s final performance of Der Rosenkavalier will also close out the Met’s Live in HD programming for 2016-17 when it is streamed in movie theaters around the globe. Click here to find a participating cinema.
